A Greensboro substance abuse center owner pleads guilty to $1.7 million in healthcare fraud

*** lightning strike is to blame for *** house fire in Wilkes County that left the homeowner in critical condition. It happened around 7:30 Wednesday night at *** home on Nollwood Drive. The fire marshal says on the way to the scene, firefighters learned *** man was trapped inside. Officials say hoarding conditions inside the home made it difficult to escape. This is *** look at the aftermath on your screen. Our team spoke with witnesses who watched as crews worked to get the fire under control for hours. One neighbor says she was concerned for the homeowner’s safety because she knew the layout of his house. I think oh my god, they can’t get out of that side of the house because there’s *** sliding door right back there and there’s that side door there and then the front door and then there’s not another door to the other end of the house. The homeowner was taken to *** local hospital where he continues to recover. *** North Carolina man will soon be extradited to Florida to face charges for *** woman’s murder more than 4 decades later, according to the Orlando Police Department. US Marshals arrested Willie Carpenter yesterday for the murder of Diane Matthews. Matthews was found dead in her workplace in Orlando back in 1988. Organizers or officers, excuse me, say that investigators made the arrest after Carpenter’s DNA was entered into the system in *** separate sexual assault investigation in our state. 12 investigators has obtained security video of the suspects charged with bringing *** homemade plasma cannon to *** Greensboro high school. Our Joshua Davis breaks down what was caught on camera. The footage starts with two people who investigators say are 18-year-old Solomon Caravello Bell and Chase Haraturan on the campus of Smith High School in Greensboro on Sunday. As they approach the double doors, you can see one of them right there, pull something out and turn it on to create some kind of blue light and points that tool at the door handle or perhaps *** lock. Investigators say that tool is *** Homemade plasma cannon used to damage that door and burn *** bush on campus, according to court records. One of them looks like he touches the handle and then quickly backs away, almost as if he’s burned his hand on something hot. He comes back, gives *** look at the one with the plasma cannon who turns it off, and as if it’s time to make their move, it looks like they both push on the door to try and get it open. That doesn’t work. They bring out the plasma cannon again. Let it burn for *** bit. Try the door, fail, and then focus the cannon back on whatever mechanism is keeping them from getting inside. This goes on for *** while, and if you look closely at the door, you can even see what looks like smoke. And where there’s smoke, there’s fire. An orange light flashes to life on the door. Both men step back, one of them walking off, and that’s where the surveillance footage ends. We’re told *** juvenile involved was released into the custody of *** parent. Solomon Caravel Bell and Chase Harranchen face several charges, including felony breaking and entering, having explosives on educational property, and possession of *** weapon of mass destruction. They are expected back in court on August 19th. Bedbugs causing *** major disruption at the Forsyth County Courthouse. The bugs prompted everyone in courtroom 308 to evacuate yesterday morning. The assistant clerk says more than 300 cases impacting 209 people are now delayed. Officials are now working to address the issue and restore normal operations. The deputy county manager says they have proactive pest control. Heat fumigation would be another step if an infestation is found. One of the hearings impacting involved several suspects charged in the deadly Lineback Park shooting. Their cases were continued. There’s 9 people charged in this case. Each of their involvement varies from going to the park to watch the fight to actually being involved in the fight. Everyone charged in this case is being charged as adults, but no one is charged with the murder. The Thomas Hill Rescue squad is mourning the loss of one of its leaders. Chief Rusty Gowens died Sunday from injuries that he suffered in *** crash that his own crew responded to. Gowen served with the Thomas Hill Rescue Squad for 11 years, including 4 years as chief. Following his death, support has poured in from community members, with many offering prayers and condolences to the rescue squad and Gowen’s family. Those who knew him say he devoted his life to helping others and saved countless lives along the way. Rusty was. *** fellow who would literally give you the shirt off his back, um. The legislation hit *** major roadblock last month after the president refused to approve it in an attempt to push Congress to pass *** separate voting security bill. This week, the president signaled he was still on the fence about signing the housing bill. Here’s the president’s latest response about what he plans to do. I that I dislike it. President Trump wants Congress to approve the Save America Act first, an unrelated piece of legislation that would require proof of citizenship to vote and add restrictions to transgender rights.
