Fargo Cass Public Health is once again looking for a new health officer, a little over a year after filling the position
Dr. Jessie Lindemann said at the Fargo Board of Health meeting on Friday, July 10, she will not reapply
She began the job in April 2025,
replacing Dr. Tracie Newman, who left abruptly after budget cuts prompted a cut in hours for the position
Lindemann told board members it’s been a “fantastic experience” and that she’s an advocate of public health, but her passion lies elsewhere
She has her own primary care clinic in north Fargo called Willow Health, where her priority is caring for cancer survivors
“That is where I need to spend my time and energy and focus more on that,” Lindemann said
Jenn Faul, Fargo Cass Public Health director, said Lindeman came on as health officer in a tenuous time for public health and has been a great asset
She said she was especially thankful for Lindemann taking the necessary steps to become the
lab director last October for the agency,
which had been without a “moderate complexity” credential since July 2024
Lindemann was also instrumental in distributing a community action plan
during a measles outbreak in the state
and in getting the word out about immunizations, Faul said
Newman had worked in the health officer role since 2021. She said she was left out of a decision to reduce the health officer hours
from 20 to 10 hours a week
due to city budget cuts
Lindemann was contracted to work four hours per week as health officer, a role that involves giving guidance to the Board of Health and Fargo Cass Public Health regarding essential public health services, including monitoring health status of the population, factors that influence health and community needs and assets
Faul said the health officer will continue to be contracted, and is not an employee of Fargo Cass Public Health
A request for proposal for the job closed Thursday with four applicants
Faul said those applicants will be interviewed later this month, with the new board chair, Dr. Grant Syverson, and board member, Dr. Andrew McLean, serving on the hiring committee
