    A California-based produce company is recalling lettuce distributed in Connecticut and other states due to potential contamination with cyclospora, a parasitic infection that has sickened people across the nation, according to the company’s notice

    Taylor Farms is voluntarily removing all iceberg lettuce from the U.S. market that was

    Cyclospora is a parasite that causes watery diarrhea and other gastrointestinal issues, including nausea, fatigue, vomiting, stomach cramps and appetite loss, according to the Cleveland Clinic. It can be treated with antibiotics, rest and hydration

    As of Wednesday, Connecticut had reported 40 confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis, more than double the 19 cases reported at the same point last year, according to the state Department of Public Health. The infections are part of a larger outbreak that has sickened thousands across 17 states

    Connecticut Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Manisha Juthani encouraged residents, particularly those with underlying health conditions, to wash produce thoroughly, buy whole heads of lettuce instead of pre-washed bagged varieties and cook leafy greens and herbs

    Consumers who have purchased the recalled Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce should discard it immediately, the company said. Full refunds are available at the location of purchase, according to the company’s recall notice. Consumers experiencing health issues should contact their physician. Consumers with any questions may contact the company’s customer care team at 855-455-0098 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m
