Jadarian Price has one of the bigger questions about Week 1 playing time for any NFL rookie already. Some believe he will be the Seattle Seahawks’ immediate starter at running back with Zach Charbonnet out, others think he’ll have a consistent role in a timeshare, and there’s also reason to believe George Holani has a shot to see the bulk early on
The Seahawks weren’t confused about how they’d use him when they took him, though. They knew of his bonafide big-play ability, which was some of the best in all of college football last season. Today, Hawk Mania posted this video of some of his offseason explosiveness work, which shows him jumping up off his knees with 140-pound dumbbells at his sides. Keep your eyes peeled our you might miss the quick-twitch:
Most people have never done this and might find it hard to imagine how hard this really is, and the answer is hard to quantify. That’s the point- the Seahawks want to chase edges to get further above normal. This ups the standard for what an explosive, big-play threat is in their locker room
They made the necessary decision to focus on the trenches with their last two first-round picks, and hit on both Byron Murphy II and Grey Zabel. The last offensive skill player the Seahawks drafted in the first-round was Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and while it’s unfair to compare the rookie Price to the current NFL Offensive Player of the Year, there’s a great lesson to learn. JSN didn’t truly break out until his third year in the league, and wasn’t regarded anywhere near his current status this time last year. The explosiveness will take time to realize in production, but all available evidence- including this video- says it’s there for the Seahawks to develop.
