    | Clinic Focuses on Patients with Multiple Sclerosis, Headaches

LITTLE ROCK —The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to celebrate the opening of a new neurology clinic — this one focused on multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and headache patients — in the Doctors Building at 500 S. University Ave in Little Rock

The UAMS Health Neurology Clinic occupies 9,459 square feet on the building’s second floor

“The goal of the clinic is ‘one appointment, one location, one team’ for all the patient’s MS care needs,” said Rohit Dhall, M.D., chair of the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Neurology. “With our physicians, APRNs, pharmacists, nurses, and infusion facilities all in the same location, we can better coordinate our patients’ care, making their journey with MS easier.”

“We are excited to offer our MS patients a one-stop shop with easy access and readily available parking,” said UAMS Chancellor C. Lowry Barnes, M.D. “This move also allows us to expand our capacity and to make most support services for MS patients available at the same location, for optimized care delivery.”

Three physicians specializing in MS and neuroimmunology will practice at the new location, with a fourth scheduled to arrive in September. The infusion center in the new space is equipped with four chairs. Two neurologists specializing in headaches will also practice at the new location

The move was prompted by growth in the departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery, both of which occupied limited space in the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute on the main campus

Other services for neurology patients will remain at the main campus. These include general neurology services and those for stroke patients and patients with movement disorders, epilepsy and neuromuscular conditions

UAMS is the state’s only health sciences university, with colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Professions and Public Health; a graduate school; a hospital; a main campus in Little Rock; a Northwest Arkansas regional campus in Fayetteville; a statewide network of regional campuses; and seven institutes: the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, Psychiatric Research Institute, Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging, Translational Research Institute, and the Institute for Community Health Innovation. UAMS includes UAMS Health, a statewide health system that encompasses all of UAMS’ clinical enterprise. UAMS is the only adult Level 1 trauma center in the state. UAMS has 3,553 students and 1,030 medical residents and fellows, and two dental residents. It is the state’s largest public employer with about 12,000 employees, including 1,200 physicians who provide care to patients at UAMS, its regional campuses, Arkansas Children’s, the VA Medical Center and Baptist Health.
