Xtralarge Farms and Resorts has pledged to promote healthy nutrition, preventive healthcare and positive lifestyle changes, with a focus on tackling lifestyle-related health conditions, including fibroid, obesity, fatty liver disease and cancer through its 53-day wellness campaign.
The campaign, which began on July 15 and will end on September 6, forms part of activities marking World Fibroid Day and Women’s Wellness Month

It will feature webinars, health checks, wellness activities and public enlightenment programmes designed to raise awareness of the causes, effects and possible solutions to a range of health challenges.
Co-founder and Managing Director of Xtralarge Farms and Group of Companies, Dr Moji Davids, said the initiative was designed to demonstrate the link between agriculture, nutrition and wellness

“There is no way we can talk about health and wellness without talking about nutrition. And there is no way we can talk about nutrition without talking about agriculture because, at the end of the day, the food comes from the farm,” she said.
Davids explained that the campaign would encourage Nigerians to pay closer attention to what they eat and how they live

“We have decided to establish a massive campaign. It is actually 53 days long. For the whole 53 days, we are saying everybody should wake up to the awareness of what they eat and how they live their lives,” she said.
According to her, the initiative would promote what she described as the 12 pillars of wellness, including physical, emotional, mental, social, intellectual and financial wellbeing

She stressed that the campaign would move beyond creating awareness by offering practical solutions to health challenges.
“It is not just about campaign. A lot of people are talking about things all over the place. But what are the solutions? So, what we are treating are the cause, effect and solutions,” Davids said

She disclosed that about 500 young people would be recruited to participate in the campaign, creating income-generating opportunities while supporting wellness advocacy.
Davids added that the programme would bring together farmers, medical practitioners, certified herbal practitioners, emotional and <a href="https://healthylife7.com/rep-kean-got-the-mental-health-care-he-voted-to-deny-other-new-jerseyans/" title="Rep. Kean got the mental health care he voted to deny other New Jerseyans”>mental health experts as well as spiritual leaders to address wellness from different perspectives

As part of the campaign, a wellness festival will be held in Ikeja, Lagos, on August 7, while a three-day wellness retreat is scheduled for September 11 to 13. The organisers are also collaborating with medical interventionists from South Africa on issues relating to fibroid prevention and treatment.
She revealed that public response had been encouraging, noting that more than 750 people joined an online education group within hours of its creation

“The acceptance has been huge. Everybody is interested. And if you are not suffering, prevention is also very important. Don’t wait until you fall sick before you start looking for solutions,” she said.
Explaining the campaign’s emphasis on women, Davids said empowering women with wellness knowledge would have a multiplier effect on families and communities

“If you train a woman to be well, and then you make her well and orientate her about wellness, she will, at the end of the day, make her family well, make her community well and make her society well,” she said.
She also urged Nigerians to adopt healthier eating habits by reducing dependence on highly processed foods and embracing natural food products

“We have to go back to the roots. We have to go back to how we can access quality, 100 per cent natural food products that are void of chemicals,” Davids said.
While noting that Xtralarge Farms currently produces about 21 food products developed to support healthy living, she stressed that food should not be regarded as a substitute for professional medical treatment

Davids added that the campaign was linked to the company’s agritourism project, Xtralarge Farms and Resorts, located along the Ota-Idiroko Road in Ogun State, which combines agriculture, tourism, culture, healthy food and relaxation to encourage greater public interest in farming.
“We are changing the narratives around agriculture. We are trying to wear a new apparel. By establishing a resort in a farm and bringing people to the farm for other reasons apart from farming, they end up falling in love with farming,” she said.

She said the initiative would also promote agritourism and wellness tourism by encouraging people to pay greater attention to the quality of the air they breathe, the food they eat and the rest they get.
Urging Nigerians to embrace preventive healthcare, Davids said: “Don’t wait until you fall sick. Don’t wait until something is wrong with you before you start looking for solutions.”
