(Updated) A proposal has been submitted to Loudoun County for a new venue and facility dedicated to healthy food and healthy living
It’s so different from anything we’ve heard of that we’re having trouble finding the words to describe it
Documents filed with the county outline a plan to build the Harvest Gardens Adventures in Learning campus along Sycolin Road in between Ashburn and Leesburg near the Academies of Loudoun
“Harvest Gardens is envisioned as a regional and national destination that serves school groups, families, educators, healthcare organizations, and community partners,” the paperwork reads. “Unlike a traditional museum or entertainment venue, the center provides interactive learning experiences that teach practical life skills—including healthy eating, cooking, gardening, food literacy, budgeting, and wellness—in an engaging environment where children learn by doing.”
“The campus will feature interactive educational exhibits, teaching kitchens, America’s Fruit and Vegetable Gardens, classrooms, demonstration spaces, a healthy food pantry, community education programs, and family learning experiences,” the description continues. “Visitors will explore the journey of food from farm to table while gaining the knowledge and confidence to make healthier <a href="https://healthylife7.com/exclusive-how-a-bad-date-led-to-the-creation-of-the-iconic-global-lifestyle-brand-nasty-pig/” title=”EXCLUSIVE: How a bad date led to the creation of the iconic global lifestyle brand Nasty Pig”>lifestyle choices that can last a lifetime.”
Artwork included with the filing shows a 300,000 s.f. building surrounded by a large parking lot – enough to reportedly accommodate 600 cars and 20 school buses
It says the founders expect 3 million visitors a year to visit Harvest Gardens. By contrast, the Smithsonian says the Udvar-Hazy center near Dulles Airport, where a Space Shuttle is on display, gets roughly 1.4 million visitors a year
Right now, the project is in the “Site Plan Premeeting” phase, where the people involved in Harvest Gardens can meet with county officials to discuss their vision, ask questions, and try to identify any issues before the plan moves forward
In other words, this is very preliminary. But if this project were to come to fruition, it would be a venue different from anything else in the region and perhaps beyond. Stay tuned
