Fox61 morning news anchor Erika Arias is on the mend after appendicitis surgery last week, she announced on Facebook

“After anchoring Wednesday morning, I went to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Uconn-Health-815320648826038/?__cft__%5B0%5D=AZZK1Ot3HwyEgOB2yu-_OhaQpb0UUv06nU2la4pfBMhF3rXsjpWXYK2JKD5pxlSeKNMRWqeZrfECyR4ODn3pWXdjDCFy9yp4VAwklkgKdEZCU4OVOxIM0P9cnUO7EwYfnKkEWjOB_1OzjbitRTfnKZ4Jl9L1Go0s4ql7P7aCaTH-0D2WWJLW7Zn6BDgliMfYpVA&__tn__=kK-R” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>Uconn Health ER because I’d been having abdominal pain, especially on my lower right side,” Arias wrote, accompanied by a photo from her hospital bed. “After a few hours and several tests… yep, it was appendicitis. I had surgery on Thursday and, if all goes as planned, I’m hoping to be back at work Tuesday.”

Fans and colleagues offered Arias a steady stream of well-wishes throughout the ordeal

“My daughter experienced the same at 49, ruptured appendix,” one fan wrote. “Find some good books and relax on the beach. You’ll be back at it in no time. God bless.”

Another added, “Glad you got the care you needed! I had ruptured appendicitis when I was 3! My dad was a medic in the army and knew exactly what was going on. He probably saved my life! Recover quickly! We miss you!”

It was the latest health scare for Arias in the past two years. In December 2024, she had hip replacement surgery, which resulted in her being away from the news desk for a few weeks

Arias joined Fox61 in 2008, and got her start at WPRI-TV in Providence, Rhode Island. She has worked at stations in Las Vegas and Southern California, and has freelanced for the Fox News Channel

A Massachusetts native, Arias grew up mostly in California, but has family in Connecticut, according to her Fox61 bio

She graduated cum laude from Northeastern University, and she is a member of both the Asian American Journalists Association and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists

“I wanted to post this update to let you all know I’m doing OK,” she wrote. “And also to remind you: don’t hesitate if you think something isn’t right. Trust your gut… pun not intended.”

Arias also had praise for the team at UConn Health

“Last but definitely not least, a huge thank you to the incredible surgeons, nurses, and staff at UConn Health who took such amazing care of me,” Arias wrote. “A special shout-out to Carolyn and Duda on the 5th floor, who were so kind, compassionate, and reassuring throughout the entire experience

“Looking forward to seeing you all back on FOX61 Tuesday morning!”
