From Berks County Area Agency on Aging

The Berks County Area Agency on Aging (BCAAA) will celebrate the successful implementation of its enhanced Home-Delivered Meals Program with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Aug. 10, at 11:30 a.m., at the Reading Senior Center, 40 N. 9th St., Reading. Community partners, elected officials, and members of the public are invited to attend

The ceremony recognizes the successful collaboration between the Berks County Area Agency on Aging, Berks Encore, Boyertown Area Multi-Service, the Hispanic Center of Reading and Berks County, and Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank to <a href="https://healthylife7.com/pfizer-q2-strength-overshadows-obesity-setbacks-nysepfe/” title=”Pfizer: Q2 Strength Overshadows Obesity Setbacks (NYSE:PFE)”>strengthen nutrition services for older adults throughout Berks County

The Home-Delivered Meals Program, which transitioned to frozen meals delivered twice weekly earlier this summer, provides eligible homebound older adults with nutritious, dietitian-approved meals. The new format increases flexibility, improves meal safety, and ensures greater service reliability during inclement weather and other unforeseen disruptions. The Home-Delivered Meals Program remains a vital initiative supporting the aging community, with the primary funding provided by the Berks County Area Agency on Aging.

While the ribbon cutting celebrates the success of the home-delivered meals program, it also shines a spotlight on the broader network of nutrition services available to Berks County seniors through the county’s eight senior centers

Each weekday, older adults age 60 and older can enjoy nutritionally balanced meals at no cost at senior centers located throughout Berks County. Berks Encore and Helping Harvest provide meals at six senior centers, while Boyertown Area Multi-Service and the Hispanic Center each operate and serve meals at their respective centers. Beyond providing healthy meals, the centers offer recreational activities, educational programs, wellness opportunities, and social engagement that help older adults remain active, independent, and connected to their communities.

“Good nutrition is essential to healthy aging, but so are opportunities to stay connected with others,” said Jessica Jones, Director of the Berks County Area Agency on Aging. “Our meal programs not only ensure older adults have access to nutritious food, they also foster friendships, reduce social isolation, and help individuals maintain their independence. We’re proud to work alongside our community partners to provide these valuable services throughout Berks County.”

The Berks County Area Agency on Aging primarily funds these nutrition programs through Pennsylvania Lottery proceeds dedicated to programs benefiting older Pennsylvanians. Through contracts with Berks Encore, Boyertown Area Multi-Service, the Hispanic Center of Reading and Berks County, and Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank, the agency helps ensure that older adults throughout Berks County have consistent access to high-quality, nutritious meals, whether they are delivered to their homes or served in a welcoming community setting.

The Home-Delivered Meals Program is available to Berks County residents age 60 and older who have difficulty preparing meals or leaving their homes. Likewise, congregate meals at the county’s senior centers are available to eligible older adults and provide an opportunity to enjoy a nutritious meal while participating in programs that promote health, wellness, and social connection. Individuals interested in learning more about either program or determining their eligibility are encouraged to contact the Berks County Area Agency on Aging at 610-478-6500 or visit berkspa.gov/departments/aging.
