Not long ago, ‘women’s health’ was treated as a single category within the supplement space, with menopause often viewed primarily through the lens of hot flashes. Today, that perspective has broadened to recognise that a women’s health extends far beyond a single life stage or symptom, and that every hormonal transition brings evolving needs that encompass mood, cognition, sleep, sexual wellness, and overall quality of life. Consumers increasingly expect nutrition solutions tailored to where they are in life; whether optimising hormonal wellness during their reproductive years, navigating perimenopause, or supporting healthy aging afterward. For brands, personalisation has transformed from a marketing buzzword into one of the strongest drivers of women’s wellness innovation.

From broad demographics to life-stage nutrition

The numbers tell the story. According to recent market insights, women’s health is fuelling innovation across General Health, Menopause, Pre/Postnatal, Sexual Health, and Hair, Skin & Nails. Women’s General Health is forecast to accelerate from 6.9% growth in 2026 to 8.8% by 2029, while the perimenopause/menopause support market is projected to grow by roughly 10% annually through 20291. At the same time, one in three consumers globally say they have become more self-sufficient in managing their own health2, creating demand for solutions tailored to individual goals rather than generic wellness products.

    Consumers are becoming more selective

Today’s shoppers expect far more than a pretty label and vague marketing claims. Sixty percent of global consumers report to always read ingredient lists, while 46% say ingredient transparency is very important, and 77% consider healthy eating a priority2. Those expectations are reshaping botanical innovation, rewarding ingredients that combine traceable sourcing with meaningful clinical evidence. The herbs and botanicals category itself rebounded to 7.0% growth in 2025, while combination botanical formulas surpassed single herbs for the first time, reaching $7.11 billion in US sales alone3, reflecting growing interest in multi-functional, evidence-based formulations.

Personalisation demands ingredients that evolve with women

As a woman moves through various hormonal transitions, her health priorities naturally change. This shift is encouraging formulators to seek ingredients that support women before, during, and after menopause, rather than focusing on a single life stage. FenuSmart® reflects this evolution. The patented fenugreek extract has been clinically evaluated in five human studies, including four randomised controlled trials, across pre-, peri-, and post-menopausal women. Together, these studies demonstrate how a single botanical ingredient can deliver targeted support across multiple stages of a woman’s wellness journey.

Recognition that reflects a changing industry

The industry’s recognition criteria are evolving as well. The NutraIngredients USA Innovations in Women’s Health Award highlights ingredients that combine scientific substantiation, innovation and commercial relevance within one of nutraceutical’s fastest-growing categories. Following its NutraIngredients Europe Ingredient of the Year win in 2025, FenuSmart was honoured as a finalist in the 2026 Innovations in Women’s Health Award, underscoring the growing importance of clinically validated ingredients that deliver meaningful, consumer-centric solutions.

    Looking ahead

Women’s wellness is becoming increasingly personalised, preventive, and evidence driven. Successful brands will move beyond treating women as a single consumer segment and instead formulate for distinct life stages with ingredients supported by robust science. As personalisation continues reshaping the category, clinically substantiated botanical ingredients are well positioned to help brands deliver the targeted experiences today’s consumers increasingly expect
