    BOP Public Health Service Officer Earns Prestigious Award

    Honoring a career committed to improving patient outcomes across federal health systems

    (BOP) Captain Tara Rhodes, a U.S. Public Health Service officer with more than 27 years of government service, including 20 years with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, received the 2025 Military Health System Nursing Leadership Excellence Award. Presented at the 2026 MHS Conference in Dallas, the award honors nurses who demonstrate exceptional leadership, clinical expertise, innovation, and commitment to improving patient care across the Military Health System

    Throughout her career with the BOP, CAPT Rhodes has served in key roles such as staff nurse, mental health nurse specialist, and Quality Improvement and Infection Prevention Control officer at local, regional, and national levels. Her work has strengthened infectious disease surveillance and advanced clinical practice agencywide. Her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with her expertise in infectious diseases and tuberculosis, has been widely recognized

    Dedicated to caring for underserved populations, CAPT Rhodes has continually expanded her impact within the BOP and the MHS. Her selection for this national award highlights her outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence in service and patient care
