UNC Health Southeastern is excited to announce that it will be upgrading all the equipment in its fitness centers over the next several months

For the Lumberton location, the upgrade will be done in two phases, with the first one being in August and the second in October. While the center will not fully close, there will be some limitations on services and an adjusted schedule for cardiopulmonary rehabilitation patients. For the Pembroke fitness center, all fitness equipment will be replaced later this year

“We are thrilled to be able to offer our dedicated members with brand new equipment throughout both fitness centers,” said UNC Health Southeastern President and CEO Chris Ellington. “These enhancements will provide wonderful environments for workouts and services at the centers, while allowing us to ensure services are available for the long term.”

Some of the equipment being replaced includes custom powerlift stations, cardio equipment to include but not limited to treadmills, air raid ski trainer, and stair climbers; strength equipment; stretching cages and multi-bay weight racks

The first phase for upgrades to the Lumberton facility will take place Aug. 17-28. Available amenities will include the weight room, pool, hot tub, sauna, locker rooms and a limited group fitness schedule. Massage chairs and personal training will be offered with the usual additional fees. Unavailable amenities will include cardiovascular equipment, track, basketball/volleyball court, racquetball court, spin room, ab room and strength equipment

Lumberton fitness center members are invited to utilize UNC Health Southeastern Fitness Center Pembroke, located at 923 West Third Street, during the upgrade phases. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday, 5 a.m.-8 p.m.; and Sat, 8 a.m.-noon

“While we realize this will be an inconvenience for our members, we greatly appreciate their understanding and look forward to offering them a completely new workout experience,” said Fitness Services Manager Mike Jimenez

The fitness center renovation projects include funding provided by the UNC Health Southeastern Foundation

“Our Foundation continues to invest in services that support the health and well-being of our members, patients and community,” added Jimenez. “We are grateful for their support of these enhancements and for their commitment to helping us strengthen fitness, wellness and rehabilitation services throughout our region.”

More details about the Lumberton center’s cardiopulmonary rehabilitation adjusted schedule, October phase, as well as the Pembroke facility’s upgrade will be announced as they are finalized. Members who have questions about the upgrade phases or services may contact Jimenez at 910-738-5433 or [email protected]
