    WASHINGTON —

The Pentagon is pushing back on reports of mental health concerns and supply shortages aboard an aircraft carrier supporting the war with Iran

It comes as the Associated Press is reporting that another ship, the USS George Washington, is headed toward the Middle East. The ship currently in the region, the USS Abraham Lincoln, has been at sea for more than 260 days nonstop, setting a new record

U.S. Central Command declined to discuss ship schedules for security reasons, but CENTCOM condemned reports about poor conditions aboard the Lincoln in a social media post on Thursday night

CENTCOM said reports suggesting that there has been a spike in suicidal ideation are “FALSE.”

“No service members aboard the aircraft carrier have died, and the one Sailor who fell overboard Aug. 3 was quickly and safely recovered,” CENTCOM said. “The rampant misreporting on Abraham Lincoln’s historic deployment is a disservice to our men and women in uniform and their loved ones.”

In a separate response, the Navy acknowledged that combat conditions have disrupted its ability to access traditional supply hubs in the Middle East

“Leadership prioritized mission-critical supplies: first food, then hygiene items, then mail,” the statement continued, adding that sailors now have access to clean water and “healthy” meals

Still, Democrats like Sen. Richard Blumenthal are demanding more detailed answers on what’s being done to support sailors

“Widespread reports of supply shortages, plumbing issues, deteriorating mental health and more demand immediate attention,” Blumenthal wrote on social media

Democrats are also demanding clarity on the military objectives justifying the continued deployment

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters on Thursday that the U.S. military can maintain its blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz “indefinitely” by rotating ships in and out of the region

    What’s the goal?

Vice President JD Vance was asked about the endgame on Fox News Channel’s “The Will Cain Show” on Thursday

“I think this ends with the United States in a strong position, with Iran not having a nuclear weapon and with the Strait of Hormuz returned to a place where oil and gas prices are stable for the American people,” Vance said

In that interview, Vance didn’t explicitly mention a demand that the administration has emphasized in the past: the need for the strait to be open and toll-free for ships as it was before the war. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the omission signaled a priority shift for the Trump administration as the future of the Strait remains in flux

President Donald Trump asserted earlier this week that the U.S. already has “total control over the Strait,” a claim Iran disputes

Trump’s energy secretary, Chris Wright, stopped short of describing “total control” in an interview with Fox’s Bret Baier on Thursday

“Are they causing some difficulties for their neighbors and the world economy? Absolutely,” Wright said. “But their ability to cause difficulties are declining. Our ability to escort and bring products out of that region is growing.”

Wright expressed confidence that gas prices, on average, would ultimately move back towards $3 per gallon

“We absolutely will get there. The question is just the timing of that,” he said
