Waterloo, N.Y. — Health officials have confirmed two additional cases of measles in Seneca County, one week after the countyreported its first case
The Seneca County Health Department announced Thursday that two more cases have been confirmed, while two others are presumed positive
The new cases come amid several recent measles cases in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier. Another case was confirmed in Steuben County Tuesday, and one was confirmed in Tioga County Aug. 14
The risk to the general public remains low, particularly for people who are fully vaccinated. Those at greater risk include unvaccinated people, pregnant people and those with weakened immune systems
Anyone experiencing measles symptoms — which include a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes — should stay home and contact their doctor before seeking in-person medical care
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said as of Aug. 13, 2,566 measles cases have been confirmed in the United States in 2026
