Morgan Hill, Calif. (July 28, 2026) – At a time when many communities are seeking solutions to rising rates of inactivity, social isolation, and cognitive decline, Outride Day highlighted how cycling can be part of the answer. In response to this, nearly 400 researchers, educators, bicycle advocates, community leaders, and cycling industry representatives gathered at Specialized Bicycle Components headquarters for Outride Day 2026, Outride’s largest event to date. Centered on the growing connection between cycling, brain health, and overall well-being, the event highlighted how bikes can support healthier aging, positive youth development, social connection, and stronger communities.

Outride Day created a unique opportunity for attendees to explore the science, stories, and solutions shaping the future of brain health through movement. Through research presentations, hands-on exhibits, family-friendly activities, and behind-the-scenes experiences at Specialized, participants experienced firsthand how cycling is helping people of all ages live healthier, more connected lives

“The conversation around brain health is changing. More people are recognizing that healthy brains are built through movement, connection, purpose, and meaningful experiences,” said Dr. Esther Walker, Executive Director of Outride. “Cycling brings these elements together in a uniquely powerful way. Outride Day celebrates the growing community of researchers, educators, and advocates working to ensure more people can experience those benefits throughout their lives.”

The day featured presentations from leading researchers and practitioners exploring the role of cycling in supporting lifelong brain health. Experts from organizations including the Alzheimer’s Association, DTC, and Blue Zones shared insights on healthy aging, quality of life, and the importance of staying active and connected as we age. Outride also highlighted research and community programs expanding access to cycling and creating opportunities for healthier, more resilient communities

Beyond the presentations, more than 20 organizations participated in the Community Expo, showcasing innovative programs that increase access to bikes, safe places to ride, and cycling-based wellness initiatives. Together, exhibitors demonstrated how collaboration across education, health, recreation, and community sectors can create lasting positive outcomes for people of all ages. Attendees also explored Outride’s interactive “Brain on Bikes” activation, which brought the science of cycling and brain health to life through engaging, hands-on experiences.

Specialized also opened its headquarters to the public for the event, providing exclusive access to the company’s iconic WIN Tunnel, Human Performance Lab, and Specialized Museum. These experiences gave attendees a behind-the-scenes look at innovation in cycling while highlighting Specialized’s longstanding commitment to supporting Outride’s mission and expanding access to the benefits of riding

Outride extends its gratitude to all speakers, exhibitors, volunteers, partners, attendees, and Specialized Bicycle Components for helping make Outride Day 2026 a success. Together, they demonstrated the growing momentum behind a simple but powerful idea: that cycling can help support healthier brains and stronger communities. As our understanding of the relationship between movement and brain health continues to grow, Outride remains committed to expanding access to cycling and helping more people experience its social, emotional, and cognitive benefits throughout their lives.
