Ga. (WCTV) – A new service is helping South Georgia Medical Center Health (SGMC Health) in Valdosta expand access to specialized care for high-risk pregnancies
With the launch of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) services, the hospital said it hopes to strengthen “its commitment to advancing women and infants’ health across South Georgia and North Florida,” according to a press release from SGMC Health
The new medicine is expected to introduce comprehensive monitoring, advanced diagnostics and coordinated care a bit closer to home for expectant mothers facing high-risk or complex pregnancies, hospital officials said

“This service ensures families have access to highly specialized support while remaining connected to their local care team and support system,” Cherise Giddens, vice president and chief nursing officer at SGMC Health, said
Specifically, MFM services are set to focus on pregnancies complicated by issues identified through prenatal screening, fetal concerns, maternal health conditions and multiple gestations
Hospital officials said the addition of the MFM services also supports the development of the Stalvey Women and Infants Center, which is scheduled to open in January
