Cross-Border Nutrition Merger Targets Growing GLP-1 Market

    Summary:
    • Berry Street (U.S.) and Healthify (India) have merged to support GLP-1 drug users with nutrition care.
    • The integrated business will be branded Berry Street in the U.S. and Healthify internationally.
    • Healthify has raised over $150 million; Berry Street raised $50 million and works with Amazon and Walmart.

The weight-loss drug boom just changed the game for two nutrition companies

Berry Street, a U.S. startup, and Healthify, an Indian app backed by Khosla Ventures, have merged. Their goal is to help people who take GLP-1 drugs get better nutrition care, and they are betting big on a future where these drugs are everywhere

A Merger Built for the GLP-1 Boom

GLP-1 drugs, originally made for diabetes, have become famous for helping people lose weight. As their popularity soars, companies are lining up to serve the people taking them. This merger is a direct play on that trend

Berry Street will serve as the U.S. brand for the new entity, with Healthify remaining the name used elsewhere, including India. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the stakes are clear. According to a JP Morgan forecast, over 30 million people are expected to take GLP-1 medications by 2030. That is a massive number of individuals needing support, and both companies want to be there to provide it

    Two Companies, One Bigger Mission

Healthify has raised more than $150 million in funding and its app offers AI-based and human fitness and nutritional coaching. The company claims to have served over 45 million customers. Last year, it expanded into the U.S. and launched GLP-1-assisted programs in India

Berry Street brings a different kind of firepower. It operates a network of more than 2,000 clinics and provides GLP-1 care that is covered by insurance. The company raised $50 million last year from investors like Northzone, Sofina, and FJ Labs. The company provides AI-driven dietary guidance and food logging, and says it has worked with Amazon and Walmart to reach more than 200,000 customers

What This Means for Your Health and Wallet

The two founders, Noah Kotlove and Tushar Vashisht, will serve as co-CEOs. They argue that taking a GLP-1 drug is only half the battle. Without proper nutrition and coaching, patients can lose muscle mass, regain weight, or face other health issues

This merger is a bet that the future of weight management is not just about the drug itself, but the entire support system around it. For the average person, that could mean more accessible, tech-savvy nutrition advice as these drugs become more common. The race to serve the GLP-1 patient is on, and it is shaping up to be a very competitive market

The move also highlights a broader trend: as chronic conditions like obesity and diabetes become more prevalent, digital health platforms are increasingly integrating with pharmaceutical treatments. Both companies see an opportunity to combine medical interventions with daily coaching, which could reduce long-term healthcare costs and improve patient outcomes. This model appeals to insurers and employers who are eager to manage the total cost of care, not just the prescription itself

With the growing adoption of weight-loss drugs, the demand for complementary services like nutrition planning, exercise tracking, and behavioral support is expected to surge. By merging, Berry Street and Healthify aim to build a global platform that can serve patients across different health systems and cultural contexts. If they succeed, they could set a new standard for how weight management is delivered – not as a one-time fix, but as a continuous, data-driven journey
