Athletes at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games will have access to an outdoor common area for events and socializing, as well as several fitness facilities at their lodging base, which was opened to the media on Wednesday
Some 2,000 people are expected to stay at the Athlete Plaza at Nagoya Port’s Garden Pier, which will officially open on Sept. 6 ahead of the Sept. 19-Oct. 4 Asian Games, while about 1,000 are expected to stay there for the Asian Para Games in October
The outdoor common area will host welcoming ceremonies, stage events to let athletes experience Japanese culture, while also giving them a place to mingle
The medical room includes ice baths, while the site also has a 24-hour fitness center as well as a shop selling daily necessities
The installation of 200 container-style lodging units has finished, with final work, including the moving in of equipment, underway
The games organizers opted against building a large-scale athletes’ village for this year’s Asian Games, with participants instead staying in container-style lodging units and cruise ships
