Coles has launched a new version of its iconic roast chook, and the reviews so far are on both ends of the spectrum
Supermarkets are always trying to outdo each other with the best roast chook, and a poll of more than 1,000 Yahoo Lifestyle readers found Woolworths had the best
Red Rooster undercut them all recently with a $10 takeaway roast chicken that’s proved to be very popular
But Coles could be trying to sway opinion with its new Butter Chicken Hot Roast Chicken, which will only be available for a limited time and will set you back $14

“I’m not tasting butter chicken,” food influencer Russ Eats said after his first taste test
“Usually, I love a Coles chook, but I couldn’t even swallow that without water.”
He shockingly gave the new edition a one out of 10 rating as he struggled to taste the butter chicken element

Russ tasted the skin, the meat, and everything in between, and those “rich” flavours of the classic Indian dish weren’t jumping out at him
“It was on there. You could see that they’d put it on. But I could not taste that at all,” he added
After posting his video on social media, others came to the table with their reviews

“Had it last night for tea, was great in wraps with a salad,” said one shopper who was impressed with the new version
“It was okay but a little dry. [The flavour] was in the stuffing only,” added another
“It was absolutely feral. They should just stick to normal BBQ chook,” said a third
Despite Russ’ damning review, plenty of people still wanted to test it for themselves as the combination of butter chicken and a hot roast chook could be perfect for them
Coles didn’t indicate how long the flavour would be in supermarkets for, but once stock is exhausted, they’ll be gone forever
The supermarket suggested that if you wanted to get the best meal out of the new version, you can serve it with basmati rice, a garlic naan bread, and a cooling yoghurt

“It can also be shredded into wraps, pizzas, salads or rice bowls for easy leftovers,” Coles added
