FIFA World Cup 2026- Eling Haaland
    Reuters
    Norway forward Erling Haaland (9)

Norwegian striker Erling Haaland has offered fans a glimpse into his daily routine, revealing a diet centred on fresh eggs, sourdough bread, raw milk, local honey and large cuts of beef rather than expensive supplements or trendy superfoods. In his YouTube video Day in the Life of a Pro Footballer, Haaland showcased his eating habits and recovery routine. The video later caught the attention of American health influencer Paul Saladino, who reviewed the footballer’s diet, highlighting what he approved of and what he criticised.

Morning routine begins with coffee, sunlight and a simple breakfast

Haaland starts his day with coffee mixed with raw milk and a small amount of maple syrup. He describes coffee as a “superfood” when prepared properly and says milk benefits the stomach, bones, muscles and skin. Before breakfast, he spends time outdoors to get fresh air and morning sunlight. His breakfast typically consists of sunny-side-up eggs served with freshly baked sourdough bread.

Health expert praises several dietary choices

Saladino commended Haaland’s habit of getting morning sunlight and was particularly impressed by his consumption of raw milk. He described it as beneficial for humans and cited studies linking raw milk consumption with fewer respiratory infections and lower rates of asthma, eczema and allergies. He also praised Haaland’s decision to buy local honey from the same farm where he purchases raw milk, joking that the footballer was “kind of the Viking” because of his traditional food choices. Saladino described eggs as one of the most nutritious foods, noting that they are rich in choline, protein and fat-soluble vitamins. He also endorsed sourdough bread, saying the fermentation process makes it easier to digest than many other varieties.

    Non-stick cookware draws criticism

While reviewing Haaland’s breakfast preparation, Saladino criticised his use of a non-stick frying pan, referring to it as a “garbage pan” because of concerns about PFAS chemicals found in some non-stick cookware. He instead recommended cooking with stainless steel or enamel-coated cast iron cookware.

Steak features prominently in Haaland’s meals

One of the highlights of Haaland’s video shows him visiting a local farm to buy raw milk, local honey and several large cuts of beef. The striker said he particularly enjoys fatty cuts such as ribeye, tomahawk and short ribs. At home, he seasons the steaks with salt and pepper before grilling them over high heat, explaining that achieving a crisp outer crust is key to preparing a good steak. Saladino also praised the grass-fed beef, saying animal fats provide important nutrients, including vitamins A, E and K2. He suggested that consuming foods rich in vitamin K2 during childhood may contribute to keeping growth plates open for longer, potentially influencing adult height.

Football star consumes more than 6,000 calories daily

According to Spanish media outlet Hola!, Haaland consumes more than 6,000 calories each day to meet the physical demands of professional football. His diet focuses heavily on high-quality meat, particularly locally sourced beef and nutrient-rich organ meats. In his documentary Haaland: The Big Decision, the striker said he regularly eats cow’s heart and liver because he believes they help him take better care of his body.

    Recovery routine extends beyond nutrition

Haaland’s daily schedule also includes stretching, mobility exercises, physiotherapy sessions, red-light therapy, ice baths and regular sauna sessions as part of his recovery programme. When he returns to his hometown of Bryne, however, he allows himself occasional indulgences, including Chinese food and pizza. According to The Sun, he frequently visits takeaway chain Yummy Time, where his preferred order is a kebab pizza.

Cristiano Ronaldo inspired Haaland’s approach to nutrition

In a 2019 interview with ESPN, Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge Haaland, said his son adopted aspects of Cristiano Ronaldo’s diet after hearing a story shared by former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra. According to Alf-Inge, Evra recalled having lunch with Ronaldo, who ate only fish. The story encouraged Haaland to follow a similarly disciplined approach after seeing Ronaldo remain at the highest level well into his thirties. Like Ronaldo and several other Premier League players, Haaland also works with a personal chef to prepare his meals. Former Norway teammate Josh King has previously described Haaland as “a bear” because of his enormous appetite, adding, “He’s just a freak.”Add ET Logo
