Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Plans to turn a former Cobb County Kroger into a fitness center were approved by the Marietta City Council on Wednesday night
Habersham Partners, an Atlanta-based real estate company, proposed turning the more than 48,000-square-foot space at 1122 Powers Ferry Rd. into an EōS Fitness. The council agreed but said it has to make improvements to the 1982 building and the surrounding property — including a refurbished parking lot with tree-lined islands
A proposal to tear down the building and build 322 apartments with ground-level retail spaces was shut down in 2023, the same year the Kroger location closed. Since then, the property has languished, with several code enforcement cases involving trash and graffiti reported, according to a city staff review
The landscaping plan must be approved by the council before any construction begins
In 2024, EōS Fitness said it plans to open more than 50 locations in Georgia during the next ten years
“Atlanta is the third fastest growing metropolitan area in the US, and venturing here represents a key milestone in our long-term vision for EōS,” CEO Rich Drengberg said
Other locations are planned for Roswell, Milton and Austell, the company’s website shows
