For those staying close to home for Memorial Day but planning a cookout, you may see some sticker shock at your local market. May 21, 2026 (WLUK/Don Steffens).
JUDA (WLUK) — The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, or DATCP issued a public health alert for a type of bratwurst produced by Rackow Family Sausage. The company is based in Juda, Wisconsin which is about 8 miles east of Monroe
The alert for the company’s “Rueben Flavored Bratwurst” with sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, and corned beef type flavors is being put out because the DATCP says the product is misbranded and contains undeclared allergens
The brats contain soy and egg, which was not declared on their label. The DATCP is issuing the alert to ensure consumers allergic to soy or egg know not to eat the brats. These brats were sold frozen at Rackow Family Sausage’s location in Juda
No illnesses have been reported from consuming the product
A statement on Rackow’s Facebook page says the mistake happened on 9 pounds of brats. It asks those who have purchased the product to return it to the store if they can
