(NewsNation) — A recent clinical trial suggests a new daily weight-loss pill may outperform the oral version of Ozempic in helping people with Type 2 diabetes lower blood sugar levels and lose weight
The new drug, orforglipron, was evaluated in a Phase 3 trial involving 1,698 adults with Type 2 diabetes across six countries. Researchers compared the treatment’s effectiveness with existing oral semaglutide products

After the yearlong trial, researchers found orforglipron reduced HbA1c levels by 1.71% to 1.91%, compared with a 1.47% reduction for oral semaglutide. Participants taking orforglipron also lost more weight, averaging about 15 pounds compared with roughly 10 pounds for those taking oral semaglutide
Orforglipron, marketed under the brand name Foundayo, is manufactured by Eli Lilly and received FDA approval in April
The drug is also being studied in people with obesity who do not have diabetes
