Kan. — With summer in full swing, Fort Scott is giving residents a new way to stay active outdoors

The grant came from the National Fitness Campaign and is part of a large effort by health insurance companies to provide access to tools that could prevent future costly medical issues caused by obesity and sedentary lifestyles. After a little more than six months of planning and construction, the court is now open to the public

“This court is free to all of our community members, so we wanted to remove that barrier that we often see in southeast Kansas of not having maybe the funds or the ability to get a gym membership. So, we are able to have this court outside, for free and we’re just excited for all the opportunities that it will bring for our community,” said Fort Scott Community & Human Re

The Fitness Court is located just off U.S. 69 and is open to community members ages 14 and older year-round
