Did it rain, or what? Sadly to say, it actually flooded many areas. Though we needed rain, the torrential rainfall that we received caused homes to be washed right off the foundations. Vehicles, campers, and many other items were rushed downstream. Some roads were destroyed. I heard today (Sunday) that they found one lady that had been missing. Unfortuately, she did not survive. It is unbelievable how quickly flood waters can rise and do so much damage. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have lost loved ones, and to those affected by this catastrophe.

We had a good week again at the Nutrition Center. The heat and rain did not keep folks away. Friday was very busy. I attended the funeral for Lee Roy Foster, so I did not work. Thank you, Linda, for covering the desk for me. I made it back in time to hear Carol Miller call a few games of BINGO. There were several players. Don’t forget, we play each Friday at noon, and it is free!

Also, on Friday, Karen Romine with Legacy Hospice was with us for the Vet-to-Vet Cafe’. She brought two beautiful items for the drawing this month. The winners were Jerry and Martha Dee. Congratulations! I do not know who actually held the winning ticket, but the photo I received had both of them with Karen. Photo is being submitted to this edition

We are gearing up for JULY JAM!! It is July 17, beginning at 5:30 p.m., until 8:30ish. We had a planning meeting on Wednesay afternoon to finalize everything. We have banners from People’s Community Bank and Pepsi. They will be put out on Monday to make sure people have several days to see them. We appreciate these businesses providing them for us. We have had many donations to come in for the JAM. We will be having raffle trees, with the donations on the trees. You will buy your ticket(s) and put them in the appropriate jar. We will draw throughout the evening. If your number is called, you will choose the gift of your choice from the tree. There are some really nice gift cards and other items on there, too!! You must be present to win. We will not be calling folks or mailing the donations to winners. We will have another fun thing that will go on. It is a Chinese Auction! There will be only one grouping of gifts to bid on. It is not a traditional auction where there are many items. The kicker is that you need to bring $1 bills with you!! Bring those ones and let’s have some fun!! Remember that this is a fundraiser for the Nutrition Center! So, let’s make it worthwhile! We will have a table set up for nail painting and nail art. We figured there would be kiddos and young ladies who might like to get their nails done! There may even be some more mature ladies who would like it as well!! It will be for a donation. We are not setting a price for this. We just want to have some fun! Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs, so you can sit and listen to the Cade White Band, and others. I hear that Cade has a little sister who sings as well! I am excited to hear her. I believe Brandi Shearrer Markham will be with us. My niece, Sandy Taurone, who plays mandolin, is coming. Katie McCoy is a well-known bluegrass girl and is supposed to try to make it after she gets off work. Now, I have to tell you that the highlight of the evening will be that Danie Beard, who is Junior and Kim Wood’s grandson, and Edith Eads great-grandson, will be performing on stage for the first time, with Cade White! Danie says he is so excited that Cade is his boss, and he has to do what he says! He has his western outfit all ready, from the top of his head to the bottom of his soles. He had a birthday recently and got a new guitar. This guy is READY! Be sure to come out to see Danie perform. The Nutrition Center will be offering BBQ plates with 2 sides, dessert, and drink; or BBQ Nachos with dessert and drink. We will have kid meals of hot dogs, chips, dessert, and a drink. There will be craft vendors around the perimeter of the Center’s parking lot. They will offer homemade items, such as crafts or whole baked goods. Indiviuals baked goods or foods will not be allowed, as this is a large part of the fundraiser for the Center. Also, please no outside coolers or alcoholic beverages on the premises. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chair, bring a friend, bring your dollar bills, and be prepared to have a GREAT evening!

Also, on Friday, July 17, at 1:00 p.m., we will be honoring Veteran Troy Hale, from Greenville. Mr. Hale is the oldest known living WWII Veteran in Wayne County. We are excited to do this honor for Mr. Hale, as we had him scheduled last month, but he took a fall and has been unable to get around very well. Mr. Hale’s niece chose 1:00 p.m. for the honoring. So, it will begin immediately after BINGO ends. Come out to support Mr. Troy Hale being honored

The monthly Board Meeting will be Tuesday, July 21, at 1:00 p.m. We invite you to attend if you are interested in the Nutrition Center and its operation. We are open to new ideas and new faces from all parts of the county. We are not the Williamsville Nutrition Center, but the WAYNE COUNTY Nutrition Center. We are here for all of the county’s seniors. Consider attending a meeting to see if we are something you would like to be involved in. You will not be required to “do” anything. We have a few Association members who rarely come into the Center. They will do things behind the scenes when they can, and there is a need. Then we have many members who give of their time and resources to help keep the Center going. The staff cannot maintain the whole operation without the volunteers. Our volunteers are so appreciated, because we literally cannot do it without them. Thank the staff and volunteers when you come in. It is nice to hear good things sometimes.

August 1 will be TRIVIA NIGHT, 5:00-8:00 p.m. Teams will be 6 players, or fewer. There are many exercises that you can do by using a chair, many of them while sitting in the chair. Get your teams together and ready to compete. More details on this later. I have taken up a lot of room this week talking about the JULY JAM!

Would anyone be interested in starting CHAIR EXERCISES at the Center? There are many exervises that you can do by using a chair, many of them when sitting in the chair. Exercise of any kind is good, but doing it with others helps keep you on track and makes it more fun. If you are interested, let the front desk know when you come in. Please leave your phone number with your name and I will call everyone to get your thoughts on day and time. We want to accommodate as many people as possible.

The menu for the upcoming days is as follows. Entree’s wiil only be changed in a have to case, due to food availability. Don’t forget each Wednesday is now mashed potatoes with gravy, vegetable, biscuit, salad bar, and drink. Of course, that goes with our scrumptious fried or baked chicken!!
