NAMPA, Idaho (CBS2) —Every 24 hours, 160 children are sexually assaulted by an adult in the United States. While CBS2 acknowledges that child sexual abuse and exploitation is difficult to talk about, we feel it’s too common to ignore. We want to keep you aware (by informing you of local criminal cases) and informed (by sharingin your life)
Aware:
A man arrested by Nampa Police on Tuesday, Bradley Carlton Hunt, faces 15 felonies: 11 for producing/publishing child sexually exploitative material, and four for having CSAM. The charges have varying dates reaching back to February
A judge set his bond at $1-million Wednesday. Hunt’s preliminary hearing is set for July 27
Informed:
If you ever suspect any sexual abuse, abuse, or exploitation of a child or children, you can alert local law enforcement easily and, if you prefer, stay anonymous. Local law enforcement tells IdahoNews, they want you to send a tip even if you only have a suspicion based on anything from a feeling, to an interaction, or media discovery. In Idaho, everyone is a mandatory reporter. Local law enforcement officers say they rely heavily on the community to make them aware of any possible child abuse or exploitation.
You can submit a tip through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Cyber Tipline, the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children task force, or through your local police
Both the NCMEC and ICAC websites offer a bounty of age-appropriate reidentify and avoid child predators
Another useful tool is the sex offender map on the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website. It allows you to enter an address (home, work, school, someone else’s house, a vacation spot, etc.) and see the number of registered sex offenders within a specified radius. Then you can select any toggle that appears to view the sex offender’s picture, address, crime, and more
Keep in mind, most of the time, child predators know their victims; rarely are they strangers
The Rape Abuse and Incest National Network finds 93% of child sexual abuse survivors know their abusers: 59% were acquaintances, 34% were family members, and only 7% were strangers
RAINN also notes that an adult sexually assaults a child in the USevery nine minutes. And the impact from sexual abuse as a child can last through adulthood, resulting in them becoming far more likely to suffer from addiction, depression, and PTSD
