Global nutrition leaders explore Australia’s red meat story

    17 Jul 2026

From protein trends and social media fitfluencers to healthy ageing and sustainable diets, some of the world’s leading nutrition experts will gather in Australia this month to explore the role of red meat in healthy, balanced eating patterns

Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) will host a delegation of 13 international nutrition professionals, healthcare practitioners, educators and digital communicators for a week-long tour beginning 20 July, providing firsthand insights into Australia’s red meat production systems, nutrition science and sustainability initiatives

The program will include visits across Sydney and northern New South Wales, connecting delegates with producers, researchers and industry leaders to explore the role of red meat in modern diets, consumer health trends and contemporary food systems

As part of the visit, media will have the opportunity to hear directly from delegates and leading Australian dietitian Dr Joanna McMillan during a special nutrition and food trends event at MLA’s North Sydney office on Thursday 23 July

“I’m delighted to be working with MLA to welcome this international delegation to Australia and to be part of such an important conversation about nutrition, sustainability and balance,” Dr McMillan said

“Healthy, sustainable diets are not about single foods in isolation. They are about the overall pattern of eating, the quality of the foods we choose, and how those foods are produced and enjoyed

“This tour gives us a valuable opportunity to showcase what Australia does well, while also learning from the global perspectives these experts bring from their own communities and food cultures.”

MLA Group Manager, Food and Nutrition, Monique Cashion, said the visit reflects growing global interest in evidence-based nutrition as consumers increasingly seek trusted information about health, wellbeing and food choices

“Consumers are navigating an unprecedented volume of nutrition information from a wide range oftein intake, healthy ageing and overall wellbeing,” Ms Cashion said

“This delegation provides an opportunity to connect with influential nutrition experts, answer their questions and showcase how Australian red meat is produced, as well as the important role it can play as part of a healthy, balanced diet

“The program also creates a unique opportunity for Australian media to engage with nutrition experts from around the world who are helping shape conversations about health, food and sustainability in their respective markets.”

Participants represent a broad range of disciplines, including clinical nutrition, dietetics, healthcare, education and digital communications, with many engaging large consumer audiences through professional practice, public education and online platforms

Throughout the tour, delegates will explore Australia’s livestock production systems, environmental stewardship initiatives and the science underpinning red meat nutrition, alongside practical workshops focused on cooking, meal planning and consumer food trends
