To say this is a big offseason for Cam Jurgens would be an understatement

After winning Super Bowl LIX with the Eagles, the Pro Bowl center underwent surgery for a back injury in the 2025 offseason. The procedure meant that Jurgens wouldn’t be able to train fully for most of the offseason. By the time the season came around, he never felt fully himself

“You get surgery and then you don’t have any of that offseason to train and you’re just behind the 8-ball,” Jurgens said. “I felt like that throughout the season. And just every week I was trying to get better and get the body right, but it was like that at the start.”

Coming off a type of season where his body was always behind schedule, this offseason has been a “fresh, clean slate” for Jurgens as he has been able to train and heal in preparation for Training Camp later this month

“I always find myself just thinking in perspective like, ‘Hey, how do I feel today versus how I felt a week ago or a month ago or where was I at a year ago,'” Jurgens said about his health progress. “And it’s just so much better.”

“We have so many things in this building. We’ve got red light, cold tubs, and so you’re just finding ways to help your body.”

This offseason hasn’t only been about health and training for Jurgens. The Eagles hired Sean Mannion to be the team’s new offensive coordinator as well as Chris Kuper to be the new offensive line coach. How does Jurgens feel about having a new offensive line coach for the first time in his career?

“I’m really enjoying it,” Jurgens said. “Kuper is a former player. … He’s been where we have been. He’s gone through a lot of stuff that we have. So, it’s just a different vantage point. … It’s fun learning new techniques and new ways to do things. I’ve had a great time learning so far.”

The 26-year-old center has spent the past few months learning and “getting excited” for the offense

“I like the system. I feel like I’ve always liked teams that run it,” Jurgens said. “I feel like it lets you be a little bit more of an athlete, lets you run around and play free. So I’m excited for that.”

Of course, learning a new system does come with its own difficulties. “It’s kind of just wiping everything clean and forgetting what you used to do,” Jurgens said

Jurgens knows that change can be necessary and help elevate play, especially in a league that is “always evolving.”

“You can cut an apple so many ways until you find out a new way to cut an apple, and then you’re like, ‘Cutting this apple this way, I don’t know,'” Jurgens said. “But basically, you just learn new ways to do things and you may like it more, you may like it less. At the end of the day, you need to get the job done.”

The center believes the new blocking scheme will keep the defense on its toes

“You want to be attacking. You don’t want to be defending. And, you know, that’s not a fun way to play. So, (I’m) very excited.”

“It’s a little bit more of a whole committee approach. It’s all 11 of us that have a job and responsibility.” Jurgens said of the new blocking scheme. “It’s kind of given us some really good angles and good ways to attack defenses.”

The new system will need the whole offensive line to buy in and support each other. According to Jurgens, that’s no problem

“I really like our O-line room because everybody’s willing to help and people are willing to ask questions. We’re just a family in there.” – Written by Caroline Connor
