According to the publication, in a new study involving about 50,000 people, experts compared hair loss rates in alopecia among adults who used GLP-1 agonists to treat diabetes with those who took other medications. Researchers claim that weight loss drugs such as Mounjaro, Ozempic, and Wegovy are associated with an increased risk of hair loss
People taking GLP-1 agonist drugs, which help regulate blood sugar levels and reduce appetite by mimicking a natural hormone, have reported hair loss to regulatory bodies, and a new study involving about 50,000 people confirms this link
A team from the University of Pennsylvania reported that regulatory authorities in the United States have been informed about the link between the drugs and hair loss, particularly for semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro)
