The Miami Dolphins didn’t draft a quarterback this year but their pursuit of depth at the position will continue when they will reportedly host Jack Plummer, who earned United Football League MVP honors playing for Orlando, for a workout next week
The news was first reported by veteran NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, who also reported that Plummer, who isn’t related to former NFL quarterback Jake Plummer, had a workout for the San Francisco 49ers on Friday
Jack Plummer, 26, passed for 2,188 yards, 17 touchdowns and one interception last season while leading the Orlando Storm to a 10-1 record and playoff berth, where they lost to the DC Defenders, 28-22
Plummer would presumably compete with Dolphins backup quarterbacks Quinn Ewers, Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski for a spot behind starter Malik Willis. At this point it’s most likely that Plummer, if he’s signed, would be competing for the No. 3 job
Ewers, the 2025 seventh-round pick, started three games for the Dolphins last season and has the inside track for the No. 2 job. Miller is a 2025 sixth-round pick by the Las Vegas Raiders. He was signed by the Dolphins late last season. Gronowski, undrafted out of Iowa despite earning offensive MVP honors in the East-West Shrine Bowl, and Miller were both with the Dolphins during the offseason workouts
Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has said that ideally he’d like to draft a quarterback every year but the Dolphins didn’t select one this year
In recent seasons the Dolphins had problems developing a reliable backup among quarterbacks that included Teddy Bridgewater, Skyler Thompson, Mike White and Zach Wilson
Plummer played college football for Purdue, California and Louisville, finishing with the Cardinals in 2023, where they lost to Florida State, 16-6 in the ACC championship game. He signed with the Carolina Panthers in 2024 and spent most of the year on the practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster that December but didn’t appear in a game. He was waived by Carolina in August 2025
At Lousiville, Plummer was a teammate of Dolphins wide receiver Chris Bell, the 2026 third-round pick
The Dolphins open training camp on Wednesday. The first practice open to fans is Aug. 2
