Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles

The Chicago Bears may be less than a week away from training camp starting, but that doesn’t mean general manager Ryan Poles isn’t putting in the work

Before kicking off the weekend, the Bears brought in six players for workouts with the team. This was their chance to show the coaches they deserve a spot on the roster heading into camp

    • Hudson Clark, DB
    • Kaylan Faumui, G
    • Glendon Miller, DB
    • Josh Minkins, DB
    • Marlen Sewell, DB
    • Ben Te Kura, T

The Bears’ six-player workout is showing Ryan Poles’ hand a bit

It’s been no secret that the secondary for the Bears has been banged up over the last year. OTAs revealed a big problem: starting nickel corner Kyler Gordon was still dealing with his soft-tissue injury, leaving the cornerback depth a bit scary

Chicago brought in four defensive backs to work out. That might be the first sign that Gordon may not be ready for training camp, leaving them no choice but to bring in more depth at the position

A more fascinating name on the workout list is Ben Te Kura, the offensive tackle. He’s not an ordinary player, though, as he is considered the tallest rugby player ever at 6-foot-9. In Australia, he played for the Brisbane Broncos
rugby team from 2024 until this year

The Bears might be looking at the approach that the Philadelphia Eagles took with their starting left tackle, Jordan Mailata. When he was drafted in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Mailata had never played American football before, having played only rugby, and now he’s one of the best tackles in the game

Chicago is trying everything it can to throw other NFL teams off their game with the workout it hosted. Some hidden talent could be in there for Poles to find and add to the roster

Years ago, I learned that understanding the brain does not protect you from mental illness. I had a Ph.D. in neuroscience and worked as a patent lawyer specializing in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. I understood neurotransmitters, stress physiology, sleep, and mood regulation. I also lived with bipolar I disorder
