Mo. (KCTV) – A self-care book fair is bringing Kansas City readers together, drawing inspiration from the elementary school book fairs many grew up with

The event featured local artists and vendors, creating a cozy, welcoming atmosphere for attendees to browse and connect. Organizers say the goal is to build community while addressing what they call a growing loneliness epidemic

“I think we are in a loneliness epidemic. We’ve never been so connected online, and I think books help bring people together,” said Mariah Mochon. “We all really see reading as an escape… and when we find our tribe, our community who’s able to relate to us, it’s such a safe spot and there’s strength in numbers.”

Organizers hope readers leave with more than new books — they want people to walk away with new friends and simple ideas for everyday self-care
