Wafik El-Deiry: Scientific Freedom and Diverse Thinking Drive Better <a href="https://healthylife7.com/empowering-cancer-survivors-through-lifestyle-medicine/” title=”Empowering Cancer Survivors through Lifestyle Medicine”>Medicine
Wafik El-Deiry, Director of Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University and Chair of the WIN Consortium in Cancer Personalized Medicine, thanked Monica Bertagnolli, President of the National Academy of Medicine, for her leadership and shared his thoughts:
“Thank you for trying Dr. Bertagnolli. There should be less politics, more truth, more collaboration, scientific freedom and accountability if the best and most diverse viewpoints are to be heard and the ideas tested. Diversity of thought makes us stronger as does challenging dogma
We need solutions for the future support of biomedical research in academia and in particular the careers of physician-scientists. There are many issues and problems so thank you for your leadership and service. I can only hope that we leave a better world for the future generations by addressing some of the critical issues of our time.”
QuotingMonica Bertagnolli’spost:
“Nonpartisan. Multidisciplinary. Created to advise the nation and committed to evidence above all. In today’s precarious landscape for health and science, the National Academy of Medicine has an especially important role to play
In my first month as NAM president, I am focusing on three priorities in particular:
- supporting our nation’s biomedical and health research ecosystem;
- delivering independent, evidence-based guidance for the benefit of the American public;
- building a national infrastructure that translates research insights more quickly into benefits for everyone.
Let me know what you think. How can the NAM best apply its unique attributes for progress in health today?”
