How Pet Wants Franchisees Drive Sales with Cat Nutrition Expertise

The pet food aisle has never been more crowded. Cat owners today are faced with countless choices, from grain-free diets and premium proteins to freeze-dried treats, supplements and specialty formulas. But while product options continue to expand, many pet parents still struggle to understand what their cats actually need nutritionally

That educational gap is exactly where Pet Wantshas built its reputation

Rather than simply selling pet food, the boutique pet nutrition <a href="https://healthylife7.com/can-amgen-nasdaqamgn-turn-its-monthly-obesity-shot-into-a-franchise/” title=”Can Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN) Turn Its Monthly Obesity Shot Into A Franchise?”>franchise trains its franchise owners to become trusted nutrition consultants who can guide customers through the unique dietary needs of cats. By combining science-backed education with proprietary, small-batch products, Pet Wantsfranchisees can differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive marketplace

“The important part here at Pet Wants is that everything starts with nutrition,” said Jeff Rachu, director of nutrition programs. “You have to understand the cat’s nutritional needs. We spend a lot of time with Pet Wants owners learning what makes cats different than dogs. We want our owners to understand what is best for them.”

Understanding Cats Starts With Understanding Their Biology

One of the biggest misconceptions Pet Wants helps franchisees address is that cats simply eat smaller portions of dog food. In reality, cats have entirely different nutritional requirements. “They are carnivores at the end of the day,” Rachu said. “That is how they are built biologically.”

That biological foundation shapes everything from protein requirements to vitamin supplementation and hydration needs. As part of its nutrition training, Pet Wants teaches franchisees why feline diets require specific nutrients and how different formulas support various stages of life and health concerns

“There are obesity issues, urinary issues and different nutritional needs,” Rachu said. “We teach our owners what the best formulas are for dry food, wet food and freeze-dried food so they can have meaningful conversations with pet parents.”

    Education Builds Trust

For Pet Wants franchisees, nutritional knowledge becomes much more than product training. It becomes a competitive advantage

“Just understanding how cats are built really builds credibility for all of our Pet Wants franchisees,” Rachu said. “They understand what cats need and what they might not do so well with. A majority of pet parents have no idea that cats don’t drink enough water, which can lead to other health issues. One thing we educate all pet parents and owners on is how wet and canned food can help with that. Those foods are around 80% water and help introduce more water into their everyday diet.”

Rather than relying on sales tactics, Pet Wants emphasizes education first. “Being able to have a conversation with a pet parent is what builds credibility,” Rachu said. “There are things that have to be put into cat food that don’t have to be put into dog food. Taurine, for example, is an essential amino acid that helps with eyesight and heart function in cats, but they can’t produce it naturally, so it must be added into their diet. That is one of the things we teach. It’s important information like that that we share with pet parents.”

Many of the nutritional conversations Pet Wants franchisees have also address everyday issues that cat owners experience but may not realize are nutrition-related

Hairballs, for example, often start with skin and coat health. “Cats get hairballs because they shed a lot and they love to groom themselves,” Rachu said. “If you’re brushing your cats and recommending foods with the right omega-6 fatty acids that support healthy skin and coat, they’ll have less shedding. It’s little things like that.”

    A Complete Cat Nutrition Platform

While education is central to the Pet Wants experience, the company’s product portfolio gives franchisees numerous ways to meet different customer needs. Pet Wants offers multiple proprietary dry food formulas

“Our dry formulas include a grain-inclusive recipe that is 100% complete and balanced and formulated specifically for cats,” Rachu said. “We also have an all-life-stages grain-free formula, which eliminates the grains and adds more meat. Some people want to feed products with grain, and some don’t.”

Beyond kibble, the brand continues expanding its cat-specific offerings. “We also have many different products, like natural chews and freeze-dried products that are formulated for cats,” Rachu said. “We have freeze-dried wild-caught salmon, which cats absolutely love. We have crunchy treats, whitefish treats and great dry formulas.”

The product lineup also includes supplements for specific wellness concerns. “Cats sometimes need a little extra supplementation, so we also offer supplements,” he said. “We also have CBD for cats because a lot of them have anxiety issues.”

The breadth of the product assortment allows franchisees to build customized recommendations rather than offering one-size-fits-all solutions

Freshness Is Part of the Difference

While many premium brands emphasize ingredients alone, Pet Wants believes how food is manufactured and delivered is just as important

“And we never want to talk bad about competitors’ food,” Rachu said. “We just talk about what makes Pet Wants special. Our foods are made at low temperatures and in small batches. They make our food every six weeks, about eight times a year. It’s stored in climate-controlled storage units and shipped directly to our owners instead of sitting in warehouses.”

That shorter supply chain helps preserve freshness while giving franchisees confidence in the products they recommend. “It’s about knowing where our food has been and getting it into the bowl sooner rather than later,” Rachu said

Pet Wants’ proprietary formulas are also developed with nutritionists, veterinarians and formulation experts and are produced using carefully selected ingredients without unnecessary fillers, reinforcing the company’s health-first philosophy

    Helping Cats Live Better Lives

All of these practical conversations and products help franchisees deliver personalized recommendations while strengthening customer relationships over time

“There are more cat owners than there are dog owners in the U.S.,” Rachu said. “But pet parents often feed their dogs higher-quality foods. That is really what we want to educate our pet parents on.”
