Lauren Weyand Elected to School Nutrition Association Board of Directors

    By Press Release•07/27/26

Lauren Weyand, MDA, RDN, LDN, School Nutrition Director with Craven County Schools, has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the national nonprofit School Nutrition Association (SNA)

SNA represents more than 50,000 school nutrition professionals nationwide and is recognized as the leading voice for school meal programs. Through advocacy, professional development, certificate and credentialing programs, and member support, SNA works to advance nutritious, high-quality school meals for students across the country

Lauren Weyand has over 14 years of experience in school nutrition and has served SNA and the school nutrition community through the National SNA Public Policy and Legislative Committee, the North Carolina SNA Marketing Committee, and the North Carolina Farm to School Advisory Committee. Lauren’s leadership has earned numerous honors over the years, including several USDA awards of excellence and, more recently, the FAME Leadership Award in 2024 and, most recently, the No Kid Hungry Summer 2025 Hunger Hero Award, which means the most to her. In her current role as the School Nutrition Director with the Craven County School District, Lauren is driven by her commitment to meet the needs of all students. She has done this in 2 distinct ways. During her first year in the Craven County School District, Lauren developed a plan to ensure the menu reflected what students would eat by conducting annual district-wide student testing to gauge their preferences. This student engagement was featured in SNA magazine last spring. Another way she engages students is through her Farm to School initiative. She is passionate about connecting students with the farmers who grow the food they eat. This partnership with community farmers has led to many wins for students and the community.

Lauren Weyand was officially installed during SNA’s Annual National Conference in July and will serve a three-year term. To learn more about the School Nutrition Association, visit www.schoolnutrition.org
