Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Mosquitoes have been found with West Nile virus just east of Twin Falls

South Central <a href="https://healthylife7.com/in-memoriam-dr-roger-detels-hiv-aids-researcher-and-public-health-leader/" title="In memoriam: Dr. Roger Detels, HIV/AIDS researcher and public health leader”>Public Health District (SCPHD) and Twin Falls County Pest Abatement District (TFCPAD) are reminding local residents that mosquito season is in full swing, according to a recent press release

Simple steps can be taken to help prevent exposure such as clearing standing water around homes and using insect repellent

“Most people who are infected with West Nile virus won’t become seriously ill, but some can develop severe complications,” Jacob Ward, the SCPHD epidemiology program manager, said. “Taking a few preventive steps now can help protect you and your family throughout the rest of mosquito season.”

Symptoms include fever, headache, body aches, diarrhea, vomiting and rash. People 50 or older with serious medical conditions have a greater risk of serious illness. Central nervous system complications can happen with more severe infections

There have been no human cases reported this summer across the eight-county region monitored by SCPHD

More information is available on the TFCPAD website
