Kentucky governor presses McConnell on legacy-‘ruining‘ health

HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) —Governor Andy Beshear, the Kentucky Democrat, has used Senator Mitch McConnell’s weekslong absence from the U.S. Capitol to press for proof of the Republican’s capacity to serve
McConnell was admitted to a Washington, D.C. hospital on June 14 for what his office said was a fall, although dispatch audio released by an independent reporter appears to show he received CPR for cardiac arrest. In the weeks since, Beshear has called on McConnell to speak to the public about his recovery, which has overshadowed the final stretch of a decades-long Senate career
“Mitch McConnell cares about his legacy, and he’s ruining it,” the governor said Wednesday
The senator’s team, which hasn’t returned The National News Desk’s request for comment, has released statementsattributed to him but provided only vague assessments of the timeline for his potential return. McConnell’s medical aides said Monday they’ve worked with him as he “continues his recovery.”
“Since his discharge from hospital care, he has maintained a strenuous course of physical therapy and rehabilitation, including multiple sessions a day designed to rebuild strength and reduce the risk of future falls,” the congressional Office of the Attending Physician said in a statement
“He is not yet medically cleared to leave the rehab facility and return to the office,” OAP added
