US arts faculty abolishes grades ‘to protect mental health’

Have universities gone stark raving mad?
Beginning in fall 2027, first-semester grades for all incoming students in the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science and the Arts will appear as pass/no credit on their transcripts
The college said it believes that “covering grades will help students start strong and curb the mental health crisis unfolding among college-aged individuals.”
The college said it hopes this change will help students explore a subject that may not come easily to them or take a course in a new field without any fear that a low grade would have long-term consequences on their GPA and academic future
