As one fitness chain shuts down in Naperville, another is preparing to open
National gym chain LA Fitness is closing its 2780 Fitness Drive facility on Wednesday
The closure of the gym, located next to the Costco on Route 59, follows a number of other LA Fitness gyms that have shut their doors across the country this summer, including one in neighboring Downers Grove, according to news reports
Outside of Illinois, news reports have indicated that LA Fitness has either closed or plans on closing locations in Cordova, Tennessee; Tacoma, Washington; and East Cobb, Georgia
Representatives for Fitness International, which operates LA Fitness, did not respond to a request for comment
In March 2023, LA Fitness also closed its facility at Naperville’s Freedom Commons. That building has since been purchased by a subsidiary of Advocate Health to be used as a medical facility, CoStar news reported
LA Fitness’ Route 59 Signature Club at 3116 S. Route 59 in Naperville remains open
Last year, the Federal Trade Commission sued operators of LA Fitness over allegations that the chain makes it “exceedingly difficult” for consumers to cancel gym memberships and other related services offered by their clubs nationwide. A spokesperson for the Federal Trade Commission confirmed the lawsuit is still pending
In the meantime, Life Time Naperville expects to open its new facility in early 2027 public relations manager for the upscale health club chain
Naperville is the 17th location in the Chicago area and follows the June opening of Life Time North Shore in Northbrook
Life Time Naperville, located at 4111 Tower Court, will be a 102,000-square-foot athletic country club built on a 10.5-acre site. Planned features include indoor and outdoor pools, pickleball courts, a beach club, dedicated studios for group fitness classes, a work lounge, cafe and spa
Plans for the business have been in the works for a few years. In 2023, the Naperville City Council sold 12.55 acres of land at the southeast corner of Route 59 and 103rd Street to LTF Real Estate Co. Inc., the real estate arm of Life Time, for $6.56 million
Pricing and presale details are still being finalized
JETSET Pilates
Ahead of its fall opening in Naperville’s Springbrook Prairie Pavillion, Miami-based JETSET Pilates will host a fitness class at Hotel Arista on Sunday, Aug. 16, to give Naperville residents a taste of the JETSET experience
“JETSET is about more than movement. It’s about feeling stronger, more connected and supported,” Naperville general manager Jessica Herrera said in a news release
The Pilates chain expects to open at 2555 W. 75th St. in mid- to late-October and is part of a larger expansion in the Chicago area, Herrera said
JETSET was founded in 2010 by Tamara Galinsky, who was looking for a way to get back into shape after having her first child, according to the company’s website. When she discovered Pilates, she was hooked and wanted to continue to challenge herself, leading her to start JETSET Pilates in Miami
The company started franchising in 2022. As of mid-July, the brand has 70 studios open across the U.S., U.K. and Australia, with more than 80 additional studios expected to open in 2026, according to its website. JETSET is targeting 500 territories sold and 150 studios open by the end of the year
The event at Hotel Arista is a Mat Pilates class, meaning that the exercises will take place on the floor rather than with a traditional Pilates reformer machine
“It is a full-body workout that builds strength, improves mobility and enhances posture using controlled, intentional movements on a mat,” Herrera said. “Focused on core stability, balance and muscular endurance, it delivers a high-intensity, low-impact workout that’s accessible for all fitness levels and leaves you feeling stronger, longer and more connected to your body.”
In addition to the class, the event will also feature a wellness marketplace. Guests will have the opportunity to explore items from Kendra Scott, Regenerate Boutique and CityGate Centre amenities from Arista Spa & Salon and Arista Coffee & Café
The class costs $25 and advance registration is required at AristaSpaSalon.com
