    Texas MedClinic, which was founded in San Antonio and grew to 40 clinics in three Texas metros, has been acquired by Nashville-based HCA Healthcare, a part owner of San Antonio’s <a href="https://healthylife7.com/houston-methodist-md-anderson-lead-new-u-s-news-hospital-rankings/” title=”Houston Methodist, MD Anderson lead new U.S. News hospital rankings”>Methodist Healthcare, and rebranded.Methodist Healthcare

    Texas MedClinic facilities have a new owner — and new name

    The urgent care provider, which was founded in San Antonio and grew to 40 clinics in three Texas metros, has been acquired by Nashville-based HCA Healthcare, a major provider that operates in 19 states and the United Kingdom.

    The Texas MedClinic locations in San Antonio and Austin have been rebranded as CareNow clinics. In Houston, they are now known as HCA CareNow. 

    In San Antonio, CareNow Urgent Care is part of the Methodist Healthcare network. The healthcare system operates under a 50-50 ownership agreement with HCA and local nonprofit Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas Inc. With the addition of the 18 former Texas MedClinic sites, the network offers 35 CareNow clinics throughout the metro area

    “Texas MedClinic has been an important part of the San Antonio community for decades, and we’re proud to build on that legacy,” said Daniel Miller, president and CEO of Methodist Healthcare

    The 14 clinics in Austin are part of the St. David’s HealthCare network of CareNow Urgent Care facilities. HCA is St. David’s HealthCare’s national hospital operating partner. The St. David’s network now has 39 CareNow clinics in the region

    “Access to convenient, high-quality urgent care is essential for the health and well-being of our growing community,” said David Huffstutler, president and CEO of St. David’s HealthCare. 

    The remaining eight clinics will be part of HCA Houston Healthcare, which is fully owned by HCA and now has 37 urgent care facilities in the Houston area

    The urgent care clinics are equipped to treat common illnesses and injuries such as sprains and minor fractures, as well as perform drug tests, lab tests, immunizations, immigration exams and minor surgical procedures such as stitching. They are open seven days a week and have extended hours, with some clinics offering 24-hour service. Walk-in care is available, but patients also can make reservations online

    Texas MedClinic was founded in 1982 by Dr. Bernard “Buddy” Swift with a clinic on Blanco Road. It was sold in 2022 to national clinic operator Community Care Partners. At that time, there were 20 clinics operating in the San Antonio and Austin metro areas

    HCA owns and operates CareNow and HCA CareNow, which have more than 240 urgent care clinics in Texas and 10 other states. In Texas, CareNow also has clinics in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley.
