LAE, Papua New Guinea — The sounds of brass instruments and familiar melodies echoed through classrooms, university campuses and school courtyards across Lae as Soldiers assigned to the 25th Infantry Division Brass Band connected with communities through the universal language of music during Exercise Tamiok Strike 2026

Performing at universities, primary schools and secondary schools throughout the city, the band brought together students, educators and community members for a series of musical engagements that highlighted the enduring friendship between the United States and Papua New Guinea. While military training remains at the heart of the bilateral exercise, the performances demonstrated that lasting relationships are built not only through shared missions, but also through meaningful cultural exchanges.

Exercise Tamiok Strike 2026 is a U.S. Army Pacific-led bilateral exercise conducted with the Papua New Guinea Defence Force that strengthens interoperability, readiness and military-to-military relationships through joint training, engineering, medical and leader engagements. The exercise demonstrates the enduring relationship between the United States and Papua New Guinea while enhancing the ability of both forces to respond to regional security and humanitarian challenges across the Indo-Pacific.

At each performance, students gathered with excitement as the band’s repertoire blended recognizable American favorites with internationally known music, creating an atmosphere where smiles, applause and curiosity transcended language and cultural differences.
