    Study: A Father’s Pre-Pregnancy Diet May Shape a Baby’s Health

A recent scientific study suggests that a father’s eating habits before conception can influence a baby’s health, even though most research has traditionally focused on the mother’s health and nutrition before, during, and after pregnancy.اضافة اعلان

How Does a Father’s Diet Affect a Baby Before Conception?
According to the study’s lead researcher, Daniela Sartoli of the University of São Paulo in Brazil, “Attention is usually directed toward the mother’s diet before and during pregnancy and after childbirth, while the father’s dietary habits receive far less consideration.”
She added that the findings demonstrate that a father’s eating habits are also highly important for a child’s health, according to HealthDay, a medical news website.
Published in the journal Nutrition Research, the study followed the health status and dietary habits of nearly 43 families.
Researchers found that fathers who consumed large amounts of ultra-processed foods were more likely to have babies with above-average birth weights and greater fat accumulation around the thighs and waist at birth.
Excess weight and higher body fat during infancy and childhood are known to increase the risk of health problems later in life, including cardiovascular disease.
The researchers focused on a gene known as IGF2 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 2), which is inherited from the father and plays a key role in fetal growth. They found that a father’s dietary habits may alter the way this gene functions, ultimately influencing how the fetus develops.
Conversely, the study found that mothers who consumed excessive amounts of ultra-processed foods during pregnancy were more likely to give birth to babies with lower birth weights, shorter body length, and smaller brain circumference.
The researchers concluded that reproductive health guidelines should place greater emphasis on fathers’ dietary habits alongside those of mothers, recognizing that both parents play an important role in supporting a healthy pregnancy and child development.
