Chicks N Chaps raises money for breast cancer support in Missoula

MISSOULA, Mont. —Chicks N Chaps was in Missoula for an event Thursday
The organization helps raise money for local individuals and families impacted by breast cancer

Thursday’s get-together was held under the pavilion at the Missoula Family YMCA
There was a silent auction to help raise money
The funds were raised in Missoula, so they stay in the Garden City
But the support is defined in many ways, including testimonies. Former Miss Montana Haley Joy Tate is now the social media coordinator for Chicks N Chaps. She was a guest speaker. Haley’s mother is a cancer survivor, so she shared her mother’s story
And Chicks N Chaps Chair Ashleigh George is a cancer survivor. She shared with us how impactful Chicks N Chaps can be for someone battling breast cancer
“What people don’t understand is when you get diagnosed, your life stops, your daily work stops, your income stops, life comes to halt,” George said. “So being able to have somebody come back in and support you and making sure you’re not worried about the day-to-day living expenses is really where my drive comes from, and it’s being able to help those individuals. Worry about treatment and getting better and not worry about the financial side of it.”
“You know what it’s like to go through breast cancer, or maybe a caregiver or something who’s gone through breast cancer, there is that peace of like, I don’t have to explain myself, and that is, there is so much peace within that,” Tate said
Organizers say whether it’s financial help, a listening ear or simply knowing someone else has been through the same journey, that support can make all the difference
