New York City is under an air quality health advisory through 11 p.m. Saturday as pollution levels are expected to climb into the unhealthy range, according to a recent NotifyNYC alert

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued the advisory Saturday morning as the Air Quality Index is forecast to reach Level Orange, with readings between 101 and 150

According to the alert, at this level, conditions may be unhealthy for those sensitive to air pollution, though the risk of health impacts from outdoor activities remains low for healthy individuals

Groups considered sensitive to air quality include adults over 65, children younger than 14, pregnant individuals, outdoor workers and people with medical conditions such as heart or lung disease or respiratory issues including asthma

Those with asthma or chronic lung conditions should keep quick-relief medication readily available and follow their health management plans

Current air quality information is available at AirNow.gov

Additional details on the forecast can be found on the National Weather Service website at weather.gov/okx/ and the Department of Environmental Conservation site
