Cape Cod wants to make Route 6A safer without losing its charm

The Cape Cod Commission is developing a long-term plan for the historic Route 6A. A nationally recognized transportation planning and engineering firm has been hired to improve safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. The plan aims to preserve the scenic and historic character of the roadway and its villages

“The team will identify distinct roadway “typologies” that reflect the character of different villages, historic districts, neighborhoods and commercial areas,” according to the commission’s description on its website. “For each, they will develop conceptual cross sections that balance the needs of drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists and transit users while preserving what makes Route 6A an iconic Cape Cod roadway.”

Christmas Tree Shops signs auction on Cape Cod raises enough to build kitchen

Habitat for Humanity Cape Cod hauled in $6,786 after an online auction of two 27-foot-long Christmas Tree Shops signs that ran from July 13 to Aug. 2

“It means a lot,” said Bob Ryley, retired construction director for Habitat for Humanity Cape Cod, in a call Aug. 3. “It could be a kitchen. It could cover the interior. Doors, trim and baseboard comes as a package for about $7,000.”

Donated by Greg Bilezikian of Turtle Rock LLC, the signs were available for view at the Habitat for Humanity Restores in Falmouth and Yarmouth

A Cape Cod gym is helping older adults stay strong for what’s next

Golden Moves, a gym with two locations, one in Harwich and another in Brewster, is making working out and training for seniors a positive experience. Dennis resident Patrick Gnazzo, who trains with Golden Moves owner Amir Ashbel, has noticed a difference

“One of the things about Amir, is that he encourages me. He gives positive feedback. I needed that,” he said

“There are studios and gyms all around,” added Ashbel. “But they don’t cater to the specific needs of older adults. They don’t provide support, guidance and attention.”

Provincetown weighs remake of popular waterfront restaurant property

Provincetown Planning Board members need more information before granting special permits for a restaurant, hotel and condominium development on the site of Bubala’s by the Bay, a longstanding waterfront restaurant in the west end of town

Developer Victor DePoalo’s attorney, Robin Reid, asked for a continuance at a public hearing July 30, following a preliminary vote by the board indicating the project did not have enough votes for an approval. The hearing is continued to Aug. 13. The restaurant is open for its last season, according to a Facebook post
