Zoetis is advancing a pipeline containing more than 12 potential blockbuster products across areas including obesity, oncology, chronic kidney disease, cardiology and anxiety as the animal health company increases its focus on new growth opportunities

Zoetis defines a blockbuster as a product capable of generating at least $100 million in annual sales. The company said it intends to deliver a significant approval in a major market every year for the next several years

The pipeline spans some of the largest emerging therapeutic opportunities in companion animal medicine. Zoetis specifically identified chronic kidney disease, oncology, cardiology, anxiety and obesity among the areas represented by its potential blockbusters

Zoetis is also expanding the duration of treatment for osteoarthritis pain. Lenisigned to provide dogs and cats with up to three months of pain relief from a single injection. The products have launched in Canada and the European Union and received approval in Great Britain

The company continued building its diagnostics platform as well, completing the acquisition of VitalRADS in July. The veterinary teleradiology platform gives customers around-the-clock access to board-certified veterinary specialists and expands Zoetis beyond in-vitro diagnostics into imaging interpretation

Zoetis also expanded Vetscan Opticell, which it described as the first and only point-of-care hematology analyzer capable of providing cellular hemoglobin mean, a measurement previously available only through reference laboratories

The pipeline investment comes during a softer period for the U.S. companion animal business. U.S. companion animal sales declined 11% during Q2 as lower clinic visits, pet owner price sensitivity and competitive pressure affected demand. In contrast, U.S. livestock sales increased 23%

“We are adapting our commercial strategy to the marketplace in front of us, deploying targeted investments, accelerating innovation, and pursuing business development to strengthen our position in areas aligned with the future of animal health.”

“As we advance our robust pipeline, including more than 12 potential blockbusters over the coming years, we are acting with urgency and remain confident in the long-term fundamentals of animal health and in Zoetis’ ability to compete, lead, and create shareholder value.”

    Kristin Peck, CEO of Zoetis
