Tennis fans have shared strong reactions after Ozempic advertisements appeared at the Canadian Open during the women’s WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. A picture of the advertisement board is making its rounds on social media now, leading to heavy criticism of the brand and its core philosophy

Several users on X criticized the presence of the ads for the weight loss drug, with many disappointed at the message it was sending to the women’s players at the tournament with regards to their fitness and body image

Strongly opposing it, one user penned:

“It’s so embarrassing like did the tournament even think that through???” another wrote

However, not everyone objected to the ads. One user compared the promotion with gambling advertisements at the tournament, writing:

Another fan echoed the sentiment, writing:

In the tennis world, Serena Williams is the biggest proponent of taking weight-loss medication at the momement

In 2025, Serena Williams spoke to People about her weight-loss journey and opened up about using GLP-1 medication. She revealed that the treatment made her feel healthier and lighter, both physically and mentally

Reflecting on her experience, Williams said:

“I feel great. I feel really good and healthy. I feel light physically and light mentally. I never was able to get to the weight I needed to be no matter what I did, no matter how much I trained. It was crazy because I’d never been in a place like that in my life where I worked so hard, ate so healthy and could never get down to where I needed to be at,” said Serena Williams

Williams also revealed that she extensively researched the medication before deciding to use it. She said the treatment helped her lose more than 31 pounds

“I did a lot of research on it. I was like, ‘is this a shortcut? What are the benefits? What are not the benefits?’ I really wanted to dive into it before I just did it. They were super supportive and it was easy to get the medication. I lost over 31 pounds using my GLP-1 and I was really excited about that weight loss.”

After stepping away from professional tennis in 2022, Serena Williams made her return to competitive action in June 2026 following a four-year hiatus
