When Peter Gall opened Undisputed Fitness in 2023, part of his plan was to give back to the community

He’ll be doing that in a big way with the Run KY For Kids later this month

Gall plans to run across Kentucky, starting in Mayfield and ending in Belfry, beginning Aug. 18. He plans to cover the 450 miles in 20 days

“It started out as kind of like a crazy idea,” said Gall, whose gym is located at 312 Lewis St. “I’m always looking for ways to be able to give back. And I’ve done a couple of little things.”

One of those was a charity workout where people could come yell at the trainer. That raised about $500 that was donated to Yes Arts

“This one was a challenge I wanted to give myself, and then I thought we could probably make some serious donation money if it blows up how I wanted it to, and it’s starting to do that,” Gall said

The money raised from the run will be used to give children an opportunity to participate in sports and exercise

Gall recently began the And Still Foundation, a non-profit, after his sister Abigail suggested it

“She said ‘why don’t you do it now and you can disperse the money yourself from this run? You’ll know where the money’s going if you do it yourself,’” Gall said

“We’ll find places here in town, around the state, that deal with underprivileged youth, and we will donate money to try and get kids access to fitness, exercise and sports equipment, or to help with fees to be on a team

“It’ll deal with exercise and sports,” he added. “The thought of a kid not being able to do what they want to do or do something they love, it sucks. Kids don’t get to choose their circumstances.”

Donations can be made at https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/run-ky-for-kids, and sales from T-shirts and sweatshirts available on the site will go to the donation pool for the run

“In the beginning, family and friends said that’s super aggressive,” Gall said about his plans. “But now the response has changed. Once people saw some of the training — I did a 20-day period where I ran 180 miles, while still doing my job, having kids and stuff — I think people then started to notice, ‘hey, he’s serious about this.’”

Gall also recently ran 100 miles during a five-day period

“When I grew up, I liked to run,” he said. “I kind of quit cross country when I got to middle school. I found other sports, but after I got in trouble and caused that accident, running was one of the things — obviously my wife, my family helped me — but running was a huge outlet. Exercise in general, but running specifically

“When you get out there and you’re breathing heavy, to me there’s just nothing like that. It’s such a mental war the whole time. Unlike a lot things, running, the whole time you’re out there, after about 10 minutes, your body the rest of the way is like, ‘we should stop.’ To me, to fight that off is almost euphoric.”

Gall’s trouble came in September 2017 when he accidentally shot his best friend, who died from his injuries

“I am a firm believer it is how you get back up,” he said. “That’s what happens when you make a bunch of terrible decisions coupled with things like drinking and messing around guns. Accidents are bound to happen. It could be in a car, it could be a plethora of things. But accident or not, it’s still my reality, it still happened. I still accidentally shot my best friend and I’ve got to live with that

“One of the reasons I do think it’s good to talk about it is, one, to show people, whatever they’re going through … in my eyes most problems are relative. The worst thing that happened to me is the worst thing that happened to me. The worst thing that happened to you is the worst thing that happened to you. It’s about how you bounce back from it

“For somebody out there who’s going through something big for them, maybe they’ll hear my story and think ‘wow, I can bounce back from what I’m going through. He did it, so can I,’” Gall added

Gall at one time worked for his father, who has a construction company in Lexington, but he left to open his own business

“Exercise is my passion,” he said. “I love my job. I don’t make great money, but I love it. I get up at 5 in the morning most days and I’m thrilled when people walk in

“That I went from the lowest where I was in September of 2017 to now people trust me and this is a happy place for them that I built, I can’t believe it. It’s incredible.”

Gall’s run will go through Frankfort. On day 12, Aug. 29, he’ll run into town, and he’s inviting people to run with him for a portion of the course, from where he turns past Cliffside to the Capitol and ends the run at Undisputed. There will be a pizza party at the conclusion of the run

“I want it to be like a scene out of Rocky,” he said

Gall will have run about 290 miles by the time he gets to Frankfort

“This is going to be a good thing,” he said. “I don’t plan on failing, but win, lose or draw on this, as long as we raise some money and I can give back and people see me go out there and put my best foot forward — I’ll literally give everything I’ve got — those are the main things.”
