Measles case confirmed in Madison County, what health officials are saying
WAMPSVILLE, N.Y. —A case of measles has been confirmed in Madison County
The individual is currently recovering at home
Madison County Public Health released the following statement for neighbors:
Public Health staff are working to identify and notify anyone who may have had close contact with the individual during the period when they could have spread the virus. Anyone who may have been exposed will be contacted directly with guidance about what to do next. Measles is a highly contagious illness that spreads easily from person to person through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. A person with measles can pass the virus to others as early as four days before a rash appears and as late as four days after the rash appears.
The statement went on to say that measles is preventable through vaccination. With two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine recommended for the best protection
Anyone who is unsure of their vaccination status should contact their healthcare provider, according to the release
