The past year has seen an influx of new gyms, refurbishments, and planned openings for Watford
It feels like residents have never had more options for working on their fitness in the town, but even more are on the way soon. New and upcoming launches from Anytime Fitness, JD Gyms, and Gym Location have been particularly concentrated in the town centre
Meanwhile, Everyone Active has been investing huge sums into boosting the offering at its locations all around the area

New Gyms

Anytime Fitness is expected to open later this month at 127 The Parade, which was formerly part of the Pryzm nightclub unit
It promises a modern, premium quality gym and the team have been hard at work bringing life to the building after two-and-a-half years of closure
JD Gyms is expected to open later this year inside The Harlequin and is offering a £5 membership deal for early bird customers booking for the first month
It will set out a large open-plan floor, packed with cardio, strength, and functional equipment
Gym Watford, part of the Gym Location group, opened inside the Gade House building in The Parade at the end of February. It offers a 30,000-square-foot space open 24/7, with Pilates, boxing, HYROX and hot yoga facilities

Other plans
Planned gyms within industrial estates in Greenhill Crescent and Tolpits Lane were refused in October and August 2025, as the Watford and Three Rivers councils judged the loss of industrial floorspace was not justified

No confirmation has been given of whether the respective applicants plan to return with new proposals
Watford gym refurbishments

Everyone Active has been carrying out major works at each of its large existing gyms in the area recently, with huge sums poured into getting the best equipment
Watford Woodside Leisure Centre underwent a £600k refurbishment this spring, South Oxhey Leisure Centre unveiled the results of a £400,000 refurbishment in December 2025, and Watford Central Leisure Centre underwent a £3 million refurbishment last August
At Central, the gym’s range almost doubled by going from 70 to 120 stations
